Why a National Silk Conference

Globally, silk is a multi-billion-dollar industry with growing demand for eco-friendly and ethically produced textiles. Nepal’s agro-climatic diversity, abundant rural workforce, and rich handloom heritage provide a strong foundation to enter this market.

However, Nepal’s silk industry is currently fragmented, under-invested, and nearly non-existent, lacking:

◉ Modern technology and infrastructure
◉ Coordinated policy and institutional support
◉ Investment and financing mechanisms
◉ Market linkages and branding

The National Silk Conference serves as a national reset point, bringing all stakeholders together to rebuild the sector through a coordinated, value-chain-based approach
